How can such a gracious mover be such an UN-gracious swimmer!? :)

How can such a gracious mover be such a very UN-gracious swimmer?! :)

Karla at 10 months swimming with our spaniels.

I guess nobody told HER that you have to use your hind legs as well!

Oh the memories of my old Lotte who spent a lot of time swimming like that.  She eventually realized that she swam better by putting her head down, but I always used  to shout at her "put your head down" when she first went in.

I think it's an Irish thing (or maybe even a Setter thing) because mine do exactly the same thing!  Every now and then, they get coordinated, but occasionally, they revert and try to swim UP lol

Great fun!!! The spaniels make is look so easy:-) but I'm sure she will learn with time. Usually if they carry something they find a better balance.

What I did with one of my boys was get in the water with him about waist deep and lightly support his hindquarters while holding my other forearm on top of his front legs. A couple of sessions like that and he figured it out fine.

Thanks for the comments, everyone

It's only the second time that she is braving the water deep enough to attempt swimming - think I'll give her a bit more time and see if she doesn't figure things out for herself.

It was such a funny seen, though - we were practically rolling on the grass laughing!
