Well Just thought I would keep you updated with the effects so far of the tardak Injection Reuben had 12 days ago.
First 3 days after jab his behaviour seem to worsen ie, more humping, hyper and running off at any opportunity!
6 - 7 days after jab, a slightly more laid back dog and 90% less humping. Still keen on smelling/licking female dogs but no mounting and hardly ever tries to hump my son now unless got very excited through play.
days 7 - 12 (now), more laid back dog, eating so much better which I like as he could do with a few extra pounds. Generally out on walks he is much more focused on me and is obeying commands. One good test of this is that on our walk we often pass a house in the woods that has a pond in their back garden. As we walk past i am always trying to get him past the gate with walking to heel distraction, this way etc, etc. Quite often he cant resist and will run off into the garden ignoring my "out" or "no" or whistle to come back. BUT he has recntly obeyed my "out" or "this way" etc!
He is still full of life and fun and cheeky but just alot more biddable. His recall is still not perfect but I didnt expect that anyway. I am working extremely hard on this one and have not given him any meat at mealtimes and saved this for walks and recall rewards. Someone on this forum suggested that and it is worth a try esp as he likes his food at the moment.
I have to admit that I do like these subtle effects and training is much easier with Reuben's improved focus. I am probably going to think about getting the supelorin implant done and then review after than. I am hoping the implant can be done before the effects of tardak wear off rather than his testosterone shooting back up only to be brought right back down again. I will have to speak to my vet.
Anyway hope this helps those who wanted to be kept updated!
