Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
Below is a copy of a message I received today. I have not checked any of the links as yet. I thought it may interest some of you. I have no idea if this is true or false.
Posted to the ShowDogs-L list, March 5, 2012, X-post permission for
everything, pass it
on to other lists or anywhere else appropriate.
(The truthaboutpetfood.com site cited below is a very interesting site.)
At the end of December, a local kennel donated 12 cases of Kirkland canned
Lamb and Rice dog food. They said it was too rich for their dog because
they
all got sick. Did not think any problem with the food. I fed to my dogs,
and
to visiting dogs. Diarrhea for all dogs, puppy threw up 15 times. She
survived...Tesla and Dino did not. I contacted the company on Jan.3 to say
all dogs got sick. They said they did not produce that food. Four weeks
later, one dead dog, next week, another dead dog. Finally got a response
with...tell Costco. I contacted Costco, and then they contacted the
manufacturer. Who wants a sample of the food. Mind you...this similar food
was recalled in 2007-2009 for melamine contamination. Over 400 dogs died. I
filed a report and waiting for request for the sample of food.
I need to put out a warning of possible food contamination. ...is not
verified yet...but the vet and I feel it will be. The*Kirkland Canned Lamb
and Rice with expiration 2013. The cans I have say June 23, 2013*. Please
let your friends know. It would have been purchased in Nov.-Dec. 2012.
Please anyone that has a can to contact me directly. Do not return to
Costco. We need to let everyone know so more dogs don't die.
FDA Testing of Jerky Treats
I've been provided with a document sharing what the FDA has been testing
for - since 2007 - on jerky treats. Up to mid-November, 2011, the FDA had
received 353 reports of illness or death believed to be related to the jerky
treats (in 2011). From mid-November to present, the number of complaints
reported to FDA has almost doubled to 596 (in less than three months). And
this is what the FDA has been doing...

Reports of possible problems with Kirkland Dog Food
Word is spreading fast of possible links to Kirkland canned dog foods (sold
at Costco) to sick and dying dogs. No independent laboratory testing has
been done on the food - yet. However I've emailed with one pet owner who
lost two dogs believed to be linked to the canned food and have heard of
several others.

Hi Lois
Thank you for that. I will look out for the book as I am always interested in learning.
I am not concerned about commercial dog food as our dogs never have any. Everything they eat is natural and I must say both our dogs are very healthy.
We're the same Andy and over the years 3 of our ISs 2 girls and 1 boy passed their 15th Birthdays. Let me know if you have any problems finding it.
Thanks for that Lois have ordered the book on amazon it was only 1p...I do love a bargain...lol
Well done Jennie think it was a bit more than that when it was given to me in '98, Alexandra Bastedo is the very same actress who I think was in one of the Bond movies and a TV series. There are some lovely anecdotes about famous dogs all of it has been vetted by a vet.... does that sound right??
I do believe so Lois...I will let you know when I receive it.
Looks like amazon are doing well now...lol.. that is the 6th book I have bought in a week...think I need a holiday so I can sit and read them....if only..lol
Oh well, just few days have passed since the discussion in this blog.. And Oberon has now received a large pack of "wild rabbit ears" from a friend, the company is called "anco".. after reading so much about the danger of these dry treats I am a bit concerned in having a try.. does anybody knows about anco, and would you suggest to use them ? I am a bit in trouble because this friend is coming to our house very often, so he will see if we through away the pack and he was indeed sooo nice in buying the present! but of course I dont want to risk... what do you feel?? thanks!!
On the surface they look ok, but Anco import hide chews from goodness knows where. I would contact the company and ask them what preservatives are used (as some of these things can contain anti-freeze) and also the country of origin. Although they say 100% rabbirts ears and "natural" this doesn't mean that they haven't got some kind of preservative. I would check it out.
Hi Silvia. I would not be willing to take a chance on them. I would bin them. Why risk them?
