A little true story I heard yesterday about a sister of Abbey's, named Penny!! Penny's owner Dónal got a few new hens recently!! On three seperate occassions Penny carried a live hen to their back door, where she left it unharmed and stress free(quite tame birds!!) The little hens just walked away and are now laying eggs as if nothing happened!! I hope Penny continues to be that gentle in future!!;o))

I agree!! Soft mouth too!! Lovely story of Mick!! ;o)) When I give Abbey an egg to eat she carries it without damage until she finds a quiet place to eat it!!

I just loved my hens, only trouble is when I had the Akita's they would just gulp down whole broods of chicks nothing gentle about them, thank goodness for Irish setters. Although I have to say that my girls would chase the hens rather than be gentle with them, eggs are another thing they carry then around for hours before finding their way into them....

I have just one hen at the moment "Solo"(black minorca) and my red heads are not allowed too near as the only one I can trust is Rua, as she was brought up with my other hens and chicks years ago!!
