Hi Rita, long time ago that I wanted to write but my English is so bad, especially to explain these things. But I want to respond to the latest Debbie post. In December at the same period as your Rosco my Chickadee (7 years at this moment) has dilated, she was huge, bigger than with our litter of 12 puppies.. She was treated with an antibiotic to the stomach, his name is similar to Debbie "Erythrophore" This drug saved Chickadee. But not only this drug, it's also since that time with fresh meat bought in early trade and had five meals a day. In March I started to reduce the quantities of the drug and since end of April she don't has the drug. In March I also cook the food myself ( 80% of fresh meat, 10% vegetables and 10% of flakes). It's a real organization, but after 5 months it becomes a routine. As Debbie says, perhaps it does not work for all dogs, but it would be worthwhile to look to this drug. I keep my fingers crossed for your boy and send him a lot of hugs, Charlotte.

PS: Sorry for my english ;-) Personally since I'm ANTI d

I have read all the comments on bloat and I find them all very interesting, I lost my Buddy two years ago to bloat at that time new nothing  of the condition and neither did my vet much but thats another story, Broke my heart to loose him, if only I knew more about it then perhaps he would still be hear today, he was 10 years old and a

cross labrador german sheperd. I am terrified the same happens to Paddy. How do you relieve the bloat when it happens????? would love to know. Buddy ate nothing but dried food, could have been the oils in it. Paddy is not.

Hi Debbie..no Rosco doesn't drink to the bottom of the bowl. I restrict his water content after eating. I haven't tried him on any dried food. He was on the raw diet then the vet wanted us to move to a cooked fish and potatoe diet. He's being on this diet now for a few months now.

Charlotte I'm glad to hear Chickadee is doing well and the meds were reduced. Cooked diet seems very popular for dogs who have suffered with bloat.

Pat I'm sorry to hear about Buddy. If you ever think Paddy is suffering with bloat the best thing to do is take the dog straight to the vet. Rosco's stomach is already stapled so there's a less chance of his stomach twisting when he does bloat. I usually hand tap his side and this helps to move the gases. I also give him carbo veg and vax vomica. Some people say to get wind tablets like windzee to help relieve the wind.
