I pulled a tick off Cash the other night and since then I have been really massaging his chest and neck area often to check for others.  I have not found ticks but have found these little scabs.  I think they are a tick I should say and then upon further investigation they are like little crusty scabs that come right off with some fur.  I will make a vet appt right away but wondered if you have an experience with this.  He did have that skin infections after his neuter but those were on his lower legs but he did have a few on his chest as well.   But they were a pus filled type of larger sores. These have been on the chest and I found two on the side of his face closer to the ears today.  They are not bloody or pus filled or anything like that.  They are just a dry scabby thing.  Very small like tick sized maybe a bit larger than a pinhead.  I am concerned and hoped someone might know what this might be?   He has no allergy symptoms at all.  Gosh if I have to start the changing food thing again, I might scream now!   He is on Advantix for ticks but since he spends everyday out in the tall weed filled fields, he does occassionally bring one along for the ride.  I always make sure what I pull off of him.

Thanks Sue, it seems to me like it is just a red headed sensitive thing. Between that and his wispy coat changes going on he isn't looking as cute as he could! I don't think it is spay coat though, too soon for that. It must be puppy coat changing to adult? He is shedding more than normal and the really lighter colored wispy hair he had as a pup is sort of falling out. I am helping it along with lots of brushing too. As far as the scabs, I might take a wait and see attitude right now. He could be reacting to something out in the woods. And he swam for the first time the other day and has had way too many baths as well. If it doesn't settle, I will take him in.
Cash is on Advantix and I do find an occassional tick on him but can lift it right off. They don't imbed in them with this stuff...they just hang on for the ride I guess. They come off whole and not engorged with blood and they are still crawling. So I flush the nasty things. Cash still has these little scabs. Freaking me out so he is seeing the vet in the morning about it. I don't think the vet will know what it is anyway since it is similar to what he had when they neutered him. More antibiotics I guess, if I had the money I would have the vet dermatologist see him but it is so expensive to do the tests and visits. They always know right away what is going on.
ROFL
I often say when we are taking our walks in the woods, swattinig dozens of mosquitoes off my necks and arms, "I love nature", I just hate what naturally comes along with it. I have stepped over snakes and even had some reptile thingy run at me once. I scream often! I had a frog croak and surprise me last week and I took off running like Lance Armstrong. Cash had his hair standing up and ran along with me. I freaked him out! He probably thought what is this middle aged (not old) lady doing? I get teased because I am the one out there everyday with her hairspray and lipstick in place. I want to look good when the bees, mosquitos, ticks and frogs eat me alive.
yuck, maggots, you've just given me the hebbie jibbies!!!! lol :)
Like you Sue I can tweak a tick no problem but thankfully they are few and far between down here. Maggots, ugh, can't stand them and got a horrible story. Years ago spent all evening scraping maggots from the back end of a sheep for a neighbour and it was my birthday and we were going to have chinese for evening meal but I couldn't face chinese and rice for weeks!
reminds me of the film The Lost Boys "maggots Micheal, your eating maggots" !!!! Rice has never been the same since!
our ex vet tried to charge us 23 pounds twice in 2 days to remove ticks.we moved vets, they provided us with a tool and showed us how they should be removed
Cash saw the vet this morning and is back on antibiotics. I sure hope this doesn't become a life long situation!
We think it could be a dormant type thing that is triggered by stress. He started this again after I left him three hours in a crate on Sunday and the first episode if you recall was after he had his neutering surgery and was crated there. He sure seems to have seperation issues and this isn't cool. I never had a dog that freaked out being left alone before but he carries on so it is heartbreaking. I will try to work on this right away. Leaving him out next time but for short 15 minutes and then increase it slowly. He is a very sensitive boy and any ideas and help is welcome please.
Is that professional help for me? hehe

Seriously though.........
