Exclusively Setters

Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Due to problems accessing the AHT website Dr Nigel Holmes has kindly agreed to extend the "promotional code" for the South fo England Irish Setter Club until 31st August. Unfortunately the original code cannot still be used so a new one has had to  be issued and will have to be obtained again from the SEISCwebmaster. The AHT apologises for any inconvenience caused!

Is anything being done to spread the word among the field trial fraternity re getting their animals tested as i will be looking for a clear field trial dog in the future!!
I am very pleased because as Balintyne Home n Dry is clear that means both Vita and Edward are hereditary clear.  Welcome relief.........
thats  good news for you,I m  so  pleased, there   seems to  be   lots  of    results  coming  through now

I have been trying to think of a way to say that to Collette...well put...

well done collette on your results and good news for you eva withyour 2 boys so pleased for you both
Thanks Cheryl,Mel,Dee and Lynn but i am not out of the woods yet! I am a little apprehensive about my boys result as his did,nt come back today with the rest. I rang the AHT and was told that they did not have a confirmed result and were going to do the other swab. He is expecting to become a dad for the first time in a weeks time so I hope it will not be bad news especially as the dam is expecting a large litter.Would'nt you know the most important one would be the last result.Fingers crossed for the next week!!!!!!
fingers   x   for you

Colette, it is all the people like you that I feel so sorry for.  The matings that have taken place just before this test was available for our breed and who now have worrying times waiting for the results and indeed for some people worrying about the next few years if they know they have mated combinations that could produce affecteds.  I have been in a similar situation when I bred my first litter as 3 weeks after my bitch was mated I was notified by the owner of the sire that he was very likely a carrier of a condition which caused young puppies to die and was withdrawn from stud.  Of course this turned out to be CLAD and my bitch had 11 puppies and I had to find homes for 9 of those puppies not knowing if they were going to make it into adulthood.  That was 1997 and the test wasn't available until 1999.  The weeks that followed were so worrying when they went off to their new homes and I dreaded the phone ringing.  It was a steep learning curve to find out as much as I possibly could to explain to the prospective puppy buyers about CLAD.  No one refused to have a puppy and they all lived into old age except one who died at 7 with cancer. Two of the litter were tested and both were carriers.  I hope you are as lucky as I was and that your dog has a favourable result.

Thanks Sue.
Angela ,I can imagine how you felt selling your puppies back then. That is exactly my worry until i know the status of dad and mum to be.You always worry about finding good homes for your pups normally without the agro of trying to explain to pet people the significance of the results of the genetic tests. Will people even buy a pup that might go blind in the future?

Well that is the worse case scenario. It will be a long wait!!!
