2008 UK Pointer & Setter Championship Video

15 minutes of footage - held in Scotland. 50 qualified dogs in the Championship ran in one morning, 12 were called back for the afternoon second series; there is some commentary; the William Tell Overture is prominently featured; and an Irish Setter WON!

APOLOGIES FROM LONDA - the Pointer Forum to which the previously-posted link took us has very politely requested that the link be removed as it is causing their own members to not be able to access it. It seems so many of us have gone to look at it, from this list as well as Setters-L, that we have consumed their available bandwidth. Please refrain from further attempts to either watch the video on that site, which is now blocked to non-members anyway, and do not forward that to anyone.

But the GOOD NEWS is that the winner of the trial has the video on her own personal website, it is placed there by permission of Red Mills Dog Food, and the link to that is:

Thanks Colette for sharing your knowledge of the working side of these lovely breeds. The video was fascinating and you clarified some of it so well for people like me who are total novices when it comes to seeing what our breed should be doing. I hope to get to a field trial or suchlike one day but they are all so far from Cornwall but then so are some of the shows and I manage to get to them.
Really great to see our dogs at work !!!
Thank you for sharing this video !!
Londa,
Absolutely fabulous video footage of the Pointer & Setter Trial 2008. I enjoyed it immensly and the icing on the cake, as you say, was that a Setter won.
Thank you for posting the video.
Pat
Thanks for the link - great video! Even greater that an IS won over the pointers.
Wilko commented, how clever the grouse are, yes, the more you see them the more respect you have for them. They survive in very harsh conditions and their parenting skills are second to none. The cock birds put their lives in jeopardy by acting as a decoy to lure predators(including dogs) away from the main covey where the hen and her young will be running through the heather trying to escape danger.

I dont understand BTW (from Gennadi) but if he is asking who the winner is :- It is Penni Darragh handling Erinvale Gemma. She would be classed as the top handler of Gordon Setters (She has a way with them) Her ,and her husband Billy are one of the top few handlers to watch if you want to learn how to do the job properly. You dont see them shouting at their animals and they are always well behaved, and more importantly their dogs are exciting to watch.

Jean Brown tends to run several Lusca Irish Setters at the moment, although she has handled a pointer and an English Setter at trials.
Yes Silke I agree! Fantastic footage. I have only ever been to one before and that was held at Sandringham by the Pointer Club and Richard MacNicol was one of the judges that day. It was fantastic to watch, a real thrill!
Hi Londa,
I clicked on the link above to view the video but I was refused entry and told that they have made a note of my IP number for future reference.....did I do something wrong? I just wanted to view the video...
Regards,
Catherine
Hi Catherine, I clicked to watch it again and the same thing happened to me too!! Oops! Regards Maureen
I've had to now delete the link and have changed the subject to read ILLEGAL and posted the following to the inital post but repeat it here because of the way this forum works:

Oh dear Londa, that is such a shame. I think that we, who have watched the link, have enjoyed it so much, I do hope that you haven't got into trouble about this...It is such a shame for those who haven't watched it yet, Thank you so much for posting it anyway.....
The nice people at the Pointer Forum have offered to allow me to put it on on my own website, but I'm not sure if that can be done - have to check with my webmaster.

But I'm also wondering if it's possible to download it to Exclusively Setters, as I see several videos are on here. I'll check with the powers-that-be on this forum. The 15-minute length may be a problem, but maybe not!

Londa
Good luck. I hope that you can get it on for the rest of the people, on the site. Will keep everything crossed for you.
