Media highlight Irish setter as a sick animal

The image of the Irish setter got another big blow in Dutch media this week because a breeder was fined to pay 6000 euro for selling and subsequently denying primary epilepsy in a dog. Nearly all media, from national television to dailies and social media focused on this. Last year it was only television, now the impact is way broader. What do you think, is there a way to get out of this misery? And how?

Anne, there are photo's of his last litter on Facebook. This one is the most recent.

Nor do I intend to be !

Perhaps you would care to enlighten me as to what the facts are Barbara?

The owner of Sam and the other one are waiting for an okay to enter ES and next this forum. Does anyone know how long this takes??? As for names on pvte e-mails, I will not reproduce them here. Direct sources (breeder and/or owner) can chose to do so here.

Not long.....they have to be approved by Gene

I haven't seen Gene much around here so I just send him a pm.

Torie, sorry that you have been subjected to that silly sort of a reply.  This is still my fingers typing, I simply can't bear such ill thought out replies.

BHA, For goodness sake, yet again, please do not use such inflammatory words, "witch hunt" so, silly and so unnecessary.  Are you reading the words written?  Harry and Alfie are the love of your life, and unless health issues are addressed, future generations of people will not have the pleasure of experiencing what you have.   Please, please open your mind and heart and understand that it is so childish to reply thus.   Again for goodness sake!!!!!

Sue, about being open, I asked for the pedigrees of your epileptics about a year ago. I am still waiting!

No need to apologise, just check your inbox again! ;-)

For heaven sakes Sue, why are you so heated.   Who are you talking about, I'm sorry but I have lost your thread entirely.   It's all a bit rambling.   I am purely advocating openess, honesty and transparency (thank you for the word Catherine) nothing else.   I tried to illustrate by my own experiences and my statements are my personal experiences and at the time they were very painful and disappointing.

Sending blogs to Gene is helpful for him but at the end of the day it will not achieve a resolution to how to move forward with health issues in the Irish Setter.  Knocking people out of the discussion is your perogative but people living under a dictatorship would probably agree with me that free expression in a free country is very important.

My in box is filling up with complaints so we are closing this topic.  Please be civil to fellow members if you want to stick around.
