My first Irish Setter, Penny, came to me via the dog warden in 1987. My boyfriend owned an Irish Setter and thought that I could care for Penny over the Easter holiday until the dog pound could take her. She had been straying for some time and was a very sorry little girl - she never made it to the pound but stayed with me for 10 years. I loved her and when the opportunity came to have a dog in 2001 it was no contest, it had to be an Irish Setter. Jim Parker and I own eight year old Ruby, Lucy 5 and Georgie 2 and a half. Georgie is a reluctant show girl but we make it up to her with long walks in the woods and the beach and holidays in the Lakes and Scotland.
Hi there Maggie, welcome to the site I used to live near Market Raison, near Louth, a smallholding between Fulstow and Covenham, (can't remember how to spell that) lovely part of the country, I am sure that you will enjoy it here.
Dee and the girls
hi Maggie fancy seeing you here, enjoy the site there are some fantastic photos of beautiful dogs from around the world, check out Wilko Jansens page he has photos of the UK show scene from years back fascinating. spk to you soon
Kirsty
Hi there Maggie
I didn't manage to get to ISBC, I wasn't well at Crufts but lets face it, Crufts is a must, even if you are in your sick bed....but ISBC I wasn't sure how I was going to do, and probably would have been tossed so decided I had better stay in the 'comfort of home' to recuperate I just couldn't face the journey by myself, I really think that I am getting too old to be doing that kind of mileage by myself and sleeping in cars.
How did Jim do in the skiing marathon???
Will you be coming up to any of the Scottish shows or is that just a 'step too far' I don't have anything booked down in the south at the moment, have got to enter Irish Setter Club of Ireland but may not be able to get there as Saffy should be Pregnant by then, fingers crossed and a following wind that is...
Speak soon Dee and the girls
Hi Maggie
Sorry you had leave early at the ISBC Champ., show. However we see you have found this site that we think you will find interesting as we have.
Nice photos of your setter on site already. When we find out how to put photos
on site you will be able to view them.
Hi there Maggie
I have the same problem. Which show would you be coming up for??The spring or the Autumn show?? I know what the weather was like last year, we were in Ireland doing the Circuit and that was a complete wash out. The shows over there are all held out doors, so you had wet clothes all over the place, and I had fallen out with the people that I was sharing a cottage with, it was all in my room, where I spent the week, not to be recommended... But I had a good time despite them..
There are a lot of wonderful dogs on the continent, as we can see from this site. I have been know to start talking to dogs, in strange places, and then getting to know the owners quite well. I did that in the middle of Louth, in Lincolnshire, where I had moved to, and finding out that he, the dog, was the brother of my bitch and they both were born in the south of England....small world
I am having the same problem as you think you have, I'm rambling on a bit
Will speak soon Dee and the girls
Love all your pictures. The two video clips of your puppy are wonderful, I enjoyed them very much. Such a sweet, curious playful puppy!! Good Luck /// Joan
Thanks for the commnet about Flynn's photo. I probably did sit and watch him till he woke up, I certainly don't remember getting much done when he arrived in my life!
Best wishes,
Michelle
Hi there Maggie
Thanks for the comments. Oh yes it was a lovely day, Jas just gets better and better, as she gets older, as for the whisky its a special blend and label, so am just not sure that I want to open such a special bottle, although I might get tempted!!!!
Thanks again
Dee and the girls
Hi Maggie and thanks for the comment. It is not much snow left here, you have to go far enough from cost, to mountains, to find it. :-) I hope you'll enjoy Norway if you'll come here somewhen.
You have lovely dogs! We considering to get one more in couple of years.
Hi Maggie,
sorry I'm only getting round to a reply now... Thanks for your kind comments re photos. I hope to be admiring yours soon!
What I did when I got my new camera was buy the book to go with it (not just the handbook that comes with it) and take a week's holiday in December... then you get loads of time to try out all aspects of your camera and how to get the best settings. Usually there are the automatic and the manual programmes and they need some getting used to. I always use the 'fine' setting and can then choose the section of the picture I like best by using photoshop and still have enough pixels for a good quality photo. I uses a 200mm lense for my outdoor nature and action pictures and it really makes all the difference.
Good luck!
Susan
Had intended to show Abbi, but due to seriously bad year, never managed it...hoping to show Lola...just going to wait and see what she turns into..she's gorgeous but a bit all over the place at the moment !! Do you show Georgie much...and where next ??? Sammi
Hi Maggie...yes..Norway was a super place to live...although it was quite a while ago..we are hoping to take the 'girls' to Scotland this autumn...just trying to find the right 'cottage'...with a secure garden...don't trust Abbi not to disappear...and there are far too many sheep up there to upset..my old doggies loved living in France..we had about 7 acres of land and our own river..so although it was mighty hot in the summer..they could wander off and have a dip any time..love Suffolk, but starting to get itchy feet again....!! .good luck at the weekend... sammi
Hi there Maggie
Well if she is going to have that many, and I only put in a request for 8. I would like that kind of cut, in the sexes. Believe me she is even bigger now, just 10 days to go now, will keep everyone informed, and thanks for the reply.
Dee and the girls
Hi there Maggie,
Thanks for the birthday greetings for Saffy, unfortunately she isn't even eating her Roast Chicken at the moment, well not willingly I am still placing it in her mouth and then she will eat it. Ah well not long to go, I've been told that it makes a dreadful mess when they explode, better get the bucket and mop ready, she is going to ''blow'' very soon....Dee and the girls
I will try and put some pics up today I took some really sweet ones yesterday don't want to put hundreds of the same thing, I think that they get boring if too many. just a few a day, makes for a pleasure and not a bore.
Dee and the gang
Nicole does take a lovely picture, mine are the snap shots that are the first few. She is very proud of them...and so am I thanks for the comment.
Dee and the gang
Thank you for the birthday wishes - me, Jim and the girls spent a very wet week in the Lake District to gently get me round to the idea that I am now 50 years old. We all climbed our favorite hill on my birthday - Catbells which looks over Derwent Water - some good pictures coming soon.
Maggie
Hi Maggie - thanks for the message. I think all our girls are lovely!! You did so well at Birmingham. Hope to see you soon.
Love Carolyn and the Girlies
Hi there Maggie
I am still waiting for their ''official'' pictures, the man that took them has taken them to make sure that they are all OK, but from what I have seen is that they are wonderful, I am just a little bit prejudice about them, so keep watching this space...
All the best and thanks so much for the comments Dee and the gang
Hi there Maggie
I still have 4 at home at the moment, two are going to Europe so they can't go yet and one of the new owners are on holiday so he will be going soon. and I am keeping a boy ''Findley'' he is a real smasher, lovely personality, if he makes a good show dog all the better, But he will be a pet first and a show dog second..Don't think that he was ultimately the pick of the litter though, I think that Black boy was the pick, very pretty boy, as they all were boys and girls.
But then I am a little bit prejudiced about them all, Dee and the gang
Hello, your three setters are really gorgeous ... You should be happy and pround to own these three beautiful dogs. Where do they come from, which breeders ? They seem also best mates, your photos are also really great.
JL
Hi Maggie, thank you for your nice message ! As you, many people told me that "Lucky" should have lots of hair later ... Hope it's right !
Your three girls are really nice, what an impressive pack when you should walk all of them together ... Georgie is really beautiful but I didn't find the site of the breeder "Brabrook" ? are they in England ?
Have a nice day.
JL
Hi Maggie, I hear on the grape vine that we have a new proffesional handler in
Irish setters following in Blakes footsteps. Nice photo of Georgie.
We have a been busy with a litter of pups born yesterday, 8 dogs 3 bitches
from Blakes dog. Brabrook Baboushka x Riverbrue Dionysus j.w.
CONGRATULATIONS on your Driffield win. Tony and Bev
Hi Maggie, if I'm right ? I saw 19 people with Brabrook reference in Exclusively setters, but unfortunately the owners of the Brabrook kennel are not registered anywhere ? that's a pity, this Brabrook kennel seems to have really beautiful dogs. Do they have lots of dogs ?
hi maggie,
Been busy work, horses and taming my new girl who hopefully makes her debut on the 17th. Love your photos esp the one of georgie stacked with YOU handling her she looks lovely!!
See you soon
Kirsty
Thank you for the lovely comments. I still cant believe what happened. You always read the dog papers thinking I wish I could do that. I was totally stunned, I keep looking at the photo of myself with Frank Kane.
Yes, it's what I'm doing often, I admire him, when he sleeps, when he walks he runs in the garden, when he walks in the village, and I can tell you people stop me all the time to tell me how he's beautiful. I can guess how it should be your pleasure with your three girls !
Hi Maggie
Bailey was one of the smaller dogs and we thought one of the quietest. Chose him because of this and the wonderful shape of his head. However he now weighs a ton. He is our 4th Setter and we are used to the house being eaten from the inside out but am have trouble with house training which I didnt expect
