Unfortunately, I don't have any photos to share (we really have to replace our digital camera one day soon). But we had a great time during our first trip to the Geraldton & Districts Kennel Club show this weekend. Geraldton, for those of you who don't know anything about Western Australia, is a large country town located about 4.5 hours north of Perth. We went just hoping for a nice weekend away at a country show with some very good friends (who I really must invite to this site, since they are the only breeders of IRWS in Western Australia...and I think perhaps in Australia too).
It was a really lovely weekend, and the show was very well organised. Fionni was in a bit of a sulk on Saturday morning after having been woken at 4.30am for the drive to the show, and plonked his way around the ring. I thought he hadn't done very well, and said to my friend after breed judging, "I don't think the judge liked him." Oh well - never mind. We were still there to have a nice time with our friends.
So, you can imagine we were were stunned and absolutely THRILLED when the judge finally looked at her Group line-up and said those magic words, "I'll have the Irish Setter, thanks."
It was at that point that I turned to my friend and said, shocked, "Which Irish Setter?" (We were the only entry in the breed...) Then I realised that she meant Fionni! I think Glenn (who was handling) felt pretty much the same way, since he had to be prompted to go shake the judge's hand.
So that was 25 points for our boy - and we couldn't have been happier!
We had a celebration that night with our friends (whose baby won Baby in Group, so it was "drinks all round"). Then I spent the rest of the night trying to point out to a 32kg dog why I wasn't happy to share my single bed with him.
He didn't show as well today, so we got to leave the show early to face the 4.5 hour drive back home.
But the weekend was well worth it (despite the lack of sleep and the $200 spent on petrol)! The only disappointment was not getting a photo of him on the day!!
