Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

We haven´t been all lazy and swimming during summer. Like all out-of-hunt-seasons I activate my dogs by training them with obdience and retrieving.

We have had the opportunity to join trainingsession held on the Norwegian side with labradors. The training place is by stables so for my dogs there is a lot of distractions. Horses and lots of people. And that is good! And have we had a blast!
I have mainly trained the youngest ones of our pack of setters.
Evita has been the target of envy by the labrador owners :) . They envy her speed when she fetches the dummy and the speed in which she brings the dummy back to me. She sits still and takes perfect contact and the dummy is being given to me by a command only. The way she grabs the dummy is also pretty nice.
Yesterday I had a frozen grouse with me as well...

Sheriff, our young englishsetter male, has been like a normal young...well male. The first time he had too much on his mind, the horse-poop , the other dogs and a new place to be in. When encouraged by one of the trainers he apported the dummy to me and oh-boy where we happy!

Yesterday went much better with young Sheriff. He did not miss once, he performed perfectly!

I have been so proud of my setters! They have been like examples in training with labradors :))

We even took a little obedience among horses. Evita has been a little afraid of horses so we took the opportunity to be in the field with horse with joy. Though we had a nice distance still. Next time we`ll mingle among them...

thanks for your little story! i can imagine how proud you were :-) we were with pointers last weekend and retrieving from water and my danka swam faster than any other dog and my oldie odin retrieved everything out of the reed, even all the stuff the pointers could not find!!! she is totally deaf and her eyes are not the best anylonger either, so it was a double joy for me that she was still able to beat them all :-))) (ok, her nose is still good...)

Great photos and nice exercises, Evita and Sheriff with birds look just great, next time horses will be already a friends, mine red once are already used with horses, remember the first emotion of them “the horse is really big” now they are used. Never tried with my 4 together, but with my first setter we made joint riding on the fields (me on horse, she running next), it is great feeling.

Lovely series, hat to smile at Sheriff - after all, he is male!
Fancy being envied by the labrador owners! usually they just give a sad knowing look when they see a setter;-) your story reminded me of years ago when I joined a retriever club training group and managed to improve the impression they had of setters...
