health problems

Found out the other day that one of my fosters has discospondylosis. So sad. Vet says she has probably 6 months to live. I feel so bad for her. Before I got her the former owner kept both sisters in a run of about 10 x 10. Rarely let them out, and didn't socialize them at all. Now she and her sister get the run of 3 whole acres and get to socialize with all sorts of buddies. When I got them they were scared all the time and very lethargic. Now,since being with me since July, they are happy all the time with no sign of nerves and get tons and tons of exercise. When I seen them smile it makes me feel so good inside, yet also so sad that she will soon be gone.

Hi Phil!

So sad to hear about this illness. Poor girl.
One consolation in all this is that you know that she have had a happy life since she came to you and that she have been able to be a happy dog.
You have done a great job with this dogs and I like to give you a great tribute for that.

Yes, I realize that a good thing has been done for her but it is still sad nonetheless. We will all carry on and try to have as many happy days as possible.

My Akita had the same problem, she went on until she was 15 just let her make the pace she will know when to stop. I used a lot of Homeopathic remedies do you have a Homeopathic vet that you can consult??? Unfortunately it was many years ago now and I can't remember what they were, I do hope that she progresses well, and has a lot more time with you, keep up the good work.

That is sad news but what a very lucky setter to have such a great life now, regardless how short that may be(maybe longer than any one knows!) Enjoy every minute!

Have not been on group for a few days. Just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your lovely girl. You are giving her a wonderful life and however long she has , she knows she will be happy and loved.

Thanks for all the comments. The vet has given her some pills to keep down the inflammation of the spinal chord so she can move around. She tries to run around just like she used to and it's almost comical how she looks like a drunken sailor doing it if it weren't so sad.

Found out this weekend that someone wants to adopt my foster "kids". She's a vet a couple hours from me and is prepared to take care of their medical issues and has room to run for them also. This is great! I will miss them, but it's good for them.
