SCAV Field Trial on pheasant in Corcelles, Switzerland, 29. August 2009

We knew it was not going to be easy...
By the end of the day not many of the 57 dogs entered (HPR breeds and Setters & Pointers) left with an award.
Glen was given three good runs and worked hard, but finally we got cheated by a clever pheasant that first 'legged it' in the sugar beet and then flushed behind him... The wind kept changing direction, the ground was dry and hard going for dogs and handlers and the pheasants refused to stay put! Still, it was a great day out!

photos are of English Setter 'Bea', Irish Setters Visky and Celtique (from France) and my Glen.

Quite, Petra, they were not well trained at all!!! But I think Glen prefers nasty pheasants to Alenka's Piranhas...;-))

Great pictures Susan thanks, it shows you enjoying not only your own setters but all of the event. In my eyes last is the price for everyone active in field events. Can you tell something on rules for this field trial?

Thanks, Henk.
This was an open Field Trial 'quête de chasse' with CACT/CACIT organised by the SCAV (Société des Chasseurs à l'Arrêt dans le canton de Vaud). CACIT only in the 'couple' ie brace class. CACT in Solo if the dog merited the award.
Pheasants were released early morning so they were not in their natural habitat. Every dog was allocated a new area and given 15 - 20 min unless he comitted an eliminating fault or were 'pas dans la note' meaning not up to expected working standard. Dogs came in for a second round if they worked convincingly. Absolute steadiness to shot and wing were required - an otherwise excellent pointer was disqualified for taking a few steps after flush... There were even some french irish setters present (A. Fusillier).
our judge was Gilles Varrambier, others present were Mme N. Zaugg, M.Duchein, Ph. Leresche, G. Orsan, S. Reymond, A. Rogger
