About three months ago he discoverd the joys of absconding (3 1/2 hrs being the longest). Whilst he is in a enclosed field we have no problem once he sees an open area of fields he's off, nose to the ground he never lifts his head to see where we are totally ignores all calls and whistles. I hate to say it but it took me until the age of three for my Irish MIa decided that she was going to be caught. I must admit the longest it took me to catch her was 2 hours so i think you now have the record. x
Fortunately I never had this problem, but I was told that when this happens, we should "re-train" them, that is going out with your pocket full of treats and starting again to let them go just a couple a metres, call them, give them a treat, and increase little by little the distance AND the time between calls.
Good luck, as setters can be very strong minded as we know!!!!
