My older setter Maeve (she's just 22 months) smiles. I've posted a photograph but I didn't get the full effect because she put her head down, so it looks a bit like a snarl on the picture, but she bares all her teeth, pulls her lips back, goes all coy, and smiles when she meets us at the gate, if we've been out. The smile is followed by an enthusiastic welcome, so its seems a bit ungrateful to fiddle about with a camera while she's doing it. I wouldn't say its pretty, but its really cute. She's the second girl we have had who can do this. None of my other setters have and the puppy doesn't yet. Any other smilers?

I have not had any smiling setters but at the kennels I have had smiling collies and one terrier with a huge grin from ear to ear!!!

Odin smiles - but not at me :-) she smiles at my dad and some other people, including strangers on the street. I haven't noticed a pattern yet as she wouldn't smile on my best friends or those people visiting us more often (maybe this is the reason).

I recently took this picture of a dearly loved setter - and I think I caught a kind of smile...

I used to have a dog that smiled all the time, and it would freak people out. Looked like he was going to bite, of course he was just happy.

Wish I had a smiler now........oh well, maybe the next one. Some are tail thumpers too, but I've not had a tail thumper in years.

My English Setter Megg is a smiler. Always when I come home she runs to greet me and scrunches up her nose. It's so gorgeous.
