Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Lupin is very healthy, happy and bouncy, but sadly, and with heavy heart, I bring you the news that she prematurely lost her eight puppies, the first one, just 30 hours before being released from quarantine. One baby survived for 24 hours, with small feeds every one and a half hours around the clock, and we cared for him at home in a portable humidicrib with oxygen.Sadly, his lungs would not have been developed enough, as the litter was only due this weekend.
I cannot Thank enough our Breeding Specialist Vet, Dr Sue Joubert, one of the best in Australia. Her expertise, care and dedication has been marvellous.
Also my grateful Thanks go to Julia Mounsey and her wonderful staff at Byford Quarantine Station, who have loved and looked after Lupin during her month long stay.
Special Thanks go to my good friend Irene and her gourmet luncheons for Lupin. Between us, we have visited Lupin every day of her stay, each time covering the 150 kilometre round trip.
Erik and Christian, our two young Swedish friends, have also visited Lupin with me, to give her some Swedish hugs and words that she is familiar with.My accent isn't quite the same as the beautiful Swedish lilt.
Please respect Camilla's and my sadness at this time. Although this drama began eleven days ago, it has come as a terrible shock. Lupin has been so very happy and settled since arriving and was happily eating and playing right up until the first onset of problems.
Her puppies were sired by the beautiful Coppers Prat Bubbla, a son of the UK's leading sire, and top Irish Setter, Sh Ch Caskey's Concept at Aoibheanne J.W. out of World Winner 08 Balintyne Copper's Home N'Dry. Prat Bubbla and his litter sisters are winning so well for Camilla, including, Eva Ciechonska's in England, who was placed 1st out of 23 at Crufts, and already has 1CC to her credit.
All Lupin's test results are clear and normal, so we can only pick up the pieces and look to the future, and I know it WILL be a very bright future.
Thankyou Camilla once again, for everything, and for bestowing your beautiful Lupin on MY bed!

I feel so sorry for Myra and Camilla! You've tried so hard to get something new over for lots of money. But most important is the health of Lupin. Hopefully Lupin will get lovely babies next time and offcourse a spectacular showcarreer! But most of all, enjoy her lovely personality!
take care! Diana

Myra I am so sorry to hear about dear Lupin losing her babies. Fern lost nearly half of her 1st litter, not by having them premature but I suspect the herpes virus caused them to be born dead. I was devastated at the time. For her 2nd to Ronnerdahl( Lupin's Dad) she had the vaccination & all 13 were born healthy.
Sure Lupin will produce a fine litter in time & I know you will enjoy each other. Hugs to both of you.

Sorry to hear this.
But like someone said, important thing now is that Lupin is fine, healthy and happy
...everything else will come later.

Even under the best control, things like this just happen sometimes without any warning.
Easy to say, and what a hard thing to live through this dark part of breeding.
Just keep on planning, I know you are not a kind who gives it up that easy!!
Wishing you the best of luck for your future plans with Lupin!!!

Hi Myra
It is only now I can comment. After hearing about the first puppy we pretty much lived the incident with you and had everything crossed that the rest of the litter would be fine. A very disappointing result but the start of a very bright future for this young lady. Myra and John you are awesome breeders and dog owners as nothing was too much trouble or expense in your battle to save the babies. You most certainly went up and beyond to ensure Lupin had only the very best of care. Love to you all. Jo, Matt, Nick and James and all the mob.XXX

Hi Myra, I haven't been on your page for awhile, but Carmel told me of your tragic news only last week. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt sympathy for this terrible ordeal you have all been through. There has been such sadness in our breed in Australia over the past 18 months. I am so happy that Lupin has come through this so well and is now home with you. Everyone deserves to have great happiness from now on. I look forward to hearing updates along the way as Lupin stamps her mark on Australian soil.
My boy, Clancy won Minor Puppy in Class on both days last weekend at the shows here in Mackay, with Carolyn Pearen judging on the Sunday. Clancy's sister, won Puppy in Class and Show on Sunday under Carolyn as well.
