Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

After many months of organising, studying photos and pedigrees, and a trip to England and Sweden, the end result of frozen semen ,from three dogs, has finally been achieved.

Yesterday, Dr Phil and myself visited Quarantine in Perth, to have the consignment cleared, and this morning I drove the "gold," up to country Toodyay, to reside at Dr Phil's Veterinary clinic, until we reach the next stage.

One very special dog indeed, wasn't available at the time, so here's hoping at a later stage we can import from him. The third dog was a fairly last minute addition. His superb bloodline will blend very well with mine, in fact going back to my first import 40 years ago, Wendover Crofter, litter brother to Sh Ch Wendover Colas. In return, going back in the canister next week, will be nine year old frozen semen, from my wonderful Minstrel, Ch Amhurst Mistoffelees. Fingers crossed his progeny can be conceived, after all these years, in another part of the world.

The export date of the semen had to be delayed, owing to such dreadful weather in the UK, and the second dog, and his wonderful owners, had great difficulty with the snow in their part of the country, as well as being so very, very far from the specialist vet. I believe there are only a couple of vets in the whole of England who deal with frozen semen.Mind you, the weather alone was conducive to freezing it!!!!! Australia has strict health requirements and documentation, so there were a number of blood tests and checks which the dogs had to pass -  all an added nightmare for dear people, who must have wondered what on earth they had got themselves into!!

So....to everyone involved in this huge undertaking, including close friends who were so very helpful when I visited in August, a BIG Thankyou. To the superb Vet, Dr Angelika, and  the marvelous owners of the boys concerned, I am very, very grateful for everything you have done. We certainly have become friends through this, and I hope that you will sometime be able to visit us, here at Amhurst, and see some gorgeous offspring from your super Reds.
