How many Irish Setters do you have?
After loosing my beautiful girl Jasmine...(aka Irish Show Champion Caspians Modesty JW) I now only have two Irish again....Kirkavagh Darara At Mayfred (Saffy) and her son Mayfred Mr Magnifico (Findlay) I have now added another wonderful baby to my house, so am back to three...
How long have you owned Irish Setters?
since 1971
About Me:
I am retired and my life revolves around my grandchildren and my dogs. If I am not with one I am with the other. We all like going on country walks, and to the beach, I spend a lot of time traveling to and from shows, both in Scotland/England and Ireland. Saffy and Fin travel to the shows with me, but I only show Fin at the moment, he is doing very nicely for me in his first couple of years in the ring, and is enjoying, (probably too much), his show career. Because he is a very naughty boy at times...But has learned that his 'job' is in the ring. And he loves it..
Just added my new baby girl...Suteresett Mine Mine Mine at Mayfred....she is by Mr Jingles out of Suteresett Black Magic....she is at the moment a typical baby, into everything but she is all Mine.a little treasure. and she has settled into our house as though she has been here forever..

Yes quality of life comes first, nevertheless an horrible decision to take. I am with you with all my heart Dee, and really hope your beautiful Jas will benefit a lot from this vaccine.
Glad to know that so far she is eating, playing and sleeping well, and with all the love and care you are giving her I am sure she will have many happy months ahead.
Another special cuddle to her please.
  • Barbara

Hi Dee! How are you and your Jas? Has your vet received the vaccine for her? I know how you feel ... Please cuddle your gang for me. Best wishes Barbara
  • Yvonne Wark

Yes she will be there and I will be handling her.......watch it all go down hill !!!!!

Dee what was the name of that oil you were talking about yesterday was searching on line but could only find motor oil.....I obviously got the name wrong. Holly never got anything in the Puppy in sho class or whatever it was called but she got third in the Minor puppy stakes class so that was another two rosetts to add to her collection.......was so stressed by the time I got home after the start to the day and now it looks like I hace sciatica......never mind onwards and upwards x

Jasper is 9mths and is one of Clannads Cocktails, Clannads Fire in the Sky, who we bought from Lynne Murray-Hogflesh and Aoife is 11wks old and she is one of the latest Haremach litters and will be registered as Haremachs Orcadian Lady! They are all brill! Thanks for the welcome x

Hi Dee, no we only moved up in June this year from Warrington and brought the boys with us. Then whilst we were down south last weekend we picked up the puppy on our way back from Leeds. I am up and down all the time, although I usually fly. Do you breed at all. We are looking to in the next couple of years on a small scale, but are considering studding Ollie as he is so gorgeous....do you have contacts up in Scotland?
  • sally shaw

by contacts I mean other breeders who might at some stage be looking for a handsome boy to mate their bitch with. I would love to call in and will let you know when I might be passing. 15!! thats huge! no he has not been used before and he is only 18mths at present.

    Hi Dee,

  • Catherine Carter

No, did not get anything in a big limit bitch class... I am going to the rescue show and then LKA so we will try to meet up then.....
  • Catherine Carter

    Hi Dee,
Just got home from Pete's swimming session....he is like a pro now going round the pool. So does this mean you would move from Scotland? But what about Fin?
  • Rita Wilson

    Hi Dee

I actually run a business called www.countryhounds.ie which sells all the equipment for dog mushing. For the nike you'd need a shoulder harness http://www.countryhounds.ie/Product.aspx?product=206

    Rita
  • Rita Wilson

Shoulder harnesses are used for any sport that has a higher attachment like the bike. XBacks are designed for sleds and equipment that has brushbows like scooters. The shoulder harness is fast replacing the xbacks for alot of mushers. The shoulder harness is also great for dogs that have back or hip problems, but it doesn't mean your dog has to have these problems. Its just a pro of the design.
  • Yvonne Wark

Hi Dee and gang hope you are all well! Are you going to Waverly on Sunday? See you there if you are, hopefully H doesn't get binned again but hey ho it is all part of the fun.
Hugs to all the gang xx
  • Yvonne Wark

When and where is the Setter and Pointer show?
I was suprised Fin never got placed at NEEISC as he is such a handsome young man and is doing well.
I am trimming Holly all by myself for this show so that will be fun but have to do it sometime. I have usually done a wee bit and Hilda has tidied up for me. See you Sunday.

Hi Dee, How are you? and Jas?
I am rather busy trying to integrate my new pup at the moment.......
  • John Carpenter

Thankyou for the invitation of friendship :)
  • John Carpenter

We are very fortunate as there is no livestock too close and we can walk/Ride along the Deveron without bumping into anyone. The dogs are both great with my horses and have a respect for electric stock fencing (wet noses and High voltage not a good mix) so they stay well clear of the "Coos".
We have a circuit which is roughly a mile in length Braemar likes to be carried over the Mud (this is a practice which will end soon courtesy of his increasing girth;0) ) whereas Byron loves to wallow in it .
  • Astrid Landsaat

    Hi Dee,

I just read your blog and I really hope that those injections work for Jas. Hopefully she is one of the 32 % and will live a happy live at least for another year. It is a tough time for you and my thoughts are with you and Jas.
  • Maggie Smith

The good thing about this site is that it offers quick access to others experiences. Whilst the information we share is largely anecdotal it is nonetheless a resource which compliments that from our vets. You and Saffy have contributed to a valuble 'every day' archive - thank you for that
  • Catherine Carter

    Hi Dee,
I hope the vaccine works for Jas....Yes, I will be at LKA with a friend who has Viszlas and my Kim! The new pup comes from Greta Ross ! She is very cheeky ! A real character as they should be!
  • Howard Glansfield

    Hi Dee,
Thanks for writing to me.I am not sure how this site vworks...yet...so I hope this reaches you.
My Jingles baby,Arthur, is now 14 weeks old and he is beautiful. He is very lively and very quick to learn,Of all the setters I have had he is probably the quickest.Fred ,my seven year old setter,is a beautiful dog but has very few brain cells!
My wife and I tried showing some years ago but the dog we had then wasn't at all happy at being in the ring and I have never tried again. With Arthur I might try but lack of transport is a problem.
I hope Jas is doing well.
    Take care,
    Howard

    Hi Dee ,

Well Saffy has a kindred spirit :) Theoden is only happy when he's up high, he climbs every where he goes, sometimes I think he's part Mountain Goat ! The orange belton is lovely too, very similar to the lemon belton or so I'm told. Apparently the pigment/colouring in the nose and eyes is even lighter in the lemon & very little flecking. If you've seen Theoden's photo, he pretty much has flecking on his face & that's it ! the rest is a creamy white & murder to keep clean. I'm hoping to branch out & get an Irish Red puppy...I'm hoping the lads will like him but it won't be for a while yet, fingers crossed all will go well when it happens.

Happy New Year Dee to you and the 'gang'.
