Good bye, my love...

Joy 24.04.08 - 07.12.21

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our beloved Joy yesterday - we are devastated! Her diarrhea came back and we cared and cooked for her and once more and she started eating again and was doing fine. We went on our old rounds and were all happy, but then she was restless last Sunday night and did not want to eat…

Joy is 13.5 today!!

Defying the odds, our lovely bundle of fur called Joy is still with us! She is in need of much care now and since a few weeks, she's getting a bit slow and weaker on her hind legs. We were however given a lovely summer with many short walks in the Alps and whenever she got tired, she could ride in a dog trailer. She is always thirsty due to…

Happy 13th Birthday Joy!!!

Happy 13th Birthday, darling Joy!! You made it!!! When you collapsed onto our living room floor just before New Year, we thought, that was it... we rushed you to the clinic at half past ten that night and fought for your life. The diagnosis was devastating: Severe heart deficiency, arrhythmia, partial fibrillation and and - plus lung edema,…

Happy 12th Birthday Joy!!!

Belated Happy Birthday, my Darling Joy!!! It was yesterday, but she does not know. She is happy and doing well - apart from some usual old age problems with her legs when getting up after a long lay down or after a long walk. When she is in a new place or the smells are nice, she is still pulling on her leash like a puppy!!! And she ist still…

Happy 11th Birthday Darling Joy!!!

How time flies!!! This was me in the summer of 2008 - and now besides of the same church in Ticino in January 2019:

I had an adventurous life and travelled a lot and hope to be able to explore the world still a few years longer. But first things first: Last year in early spring we went to a town near Neapel, that was destroyed by a volcano. We…

Happy 10th Birthday Joy!!!

Our Delightful Bundle of Joy is 10 years old today and as you can see, she's well behaved and settled down by now:

That was last summer in Scotland - for the readers of Gavin Maxwell's book 'Ring of Bright Waters' Camusfearna should be well known and apparently there are still otters there! - although the one above looks more like a sea monster!

But let…

Happy 9th Birthday, Joy!!!

Happy 9th Birthday, my darling! How time flies! It seems like yesterday, when you moved in and now you are a grey haired Lady - at least some of the time! Some other time, you feel like an overgrown puppy, playful and wild as ever! I can't complain. After all the health issues, you went through I'm ever so glad, your energy is back and that you en'Joy' live to the…

Back to the Norwegian Arctic! (repost of blog)

We managed once more to travel all the way up to the most northern part of Europe and this time it was only 10'294 km! That is more than 1000km less than in 2011:-)) https://irishsetters.ning.com/profiles/blogs/10-563-km-later. Joy is a very travel experienced 'Red…

Speedy recovery my love! - new photo...

"She put my sexy body in the wash and because I was trying to lick my wound, I now have to wear this stupid pyjama! They also say, I am not allowed to run, because something they called serom developed at my belly and they want to keep it small. But I'm feeling much better and I'm getting a lot of food and attention, so I don't mind the pyjama that much and my belly…

Happy Birthday Joy

Our darling Joy is eight years old today! This photo is by my husband, made in our studio on the new dog sofa:

Sadly, Joy did not start very well today. First, she vomited and then she had an epileptic seizure - the first since October 2011 :-(. I will call the vet later and have her therapeutic level of phenobarbital retested this week. It was always at the lowest…

Our Joy

I finally managed to take some pictures of Joy yesterday. We've had some beautiful days this Autumn and went for many a long walk. Joy is seven and a half now and beginning to get grey but she is full of energy otherwise. What's more, and we're very happy about it, she did not have a seizure for four years now with the help of a very low dose of medicine. We pray it stays…

Happy Birthday Joy!

Seven years already that this darling is mixing up our household and keeping us busy! This photo was taken yesterday in the south of Switzerland. After a long walk and a bath in the brook and watching bunnies in another garden and loads of play back home and then food, Joy was finally quiet enough for a photo, watching me, doing work in the garden. She's certainly…

Setters in snow

Finally the snow has come to Switzerland:

However: Depending on the weather / light conditions or / and how much snow there is on our photo, we have an exposure problem and very often our setter is too dark and the snow grey. The simplest way to correct this is with the use of the +/- button and / or wheel on our camera, which allows us to correct the exposure with…

Christmas 2014

Joy could nearly not wait to unpack her new dummy! I wonder, what she first thought, when she noticed, this thing was not edible, but then I took it and threw it for her and she had all the fun retrieving it several times. Although she is a bit grayish already, she is really very active and playful and can behave like a puppy, pinching my shoes and other…

Thank you all!!!

I want to thank you all with today's photo for your very nice comments on my blog and photo lately! As you can see, it snowed again yesterday and today the sun was out! So we went back again to 'our' field. What a difference when the light is gorgeous too! I brought roasted turkey with today for the normal recall and her favourite cat food for the emergency recall -…

The Day I lost my Watch...

In December, we had wonderful snow - so Joy and I went out to have some fun and I brought the camera with. It all started with a harmless walk through the forest and Joy's long gazes into a small nature reserve, where often deer graze and herons fish in a small pond:…

Norway 2012 (part two)

Hello again! Let's continue our adventure through Norway! You might remember from my last blog, that our 'ingredients' of this trip was: A bad weather forecast, an active and full of energy Setter (me) and two keen photographers. Luckily all of us share one great hobby: Ornithology! So we went to look for birds - the one above is one kind of birds he likes very much…

Some of you might remember my blog from last year about my attempt of a portrait of Joy in tricky light condition and how I solved it with a fill flash and a head shot. Here's the blog from last year:…
