Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World

Summer is on our doorstep, and the warmer weather heralds the awakening of the snakes and lizards.

The photos are of a Blue Tongue, or Bobtail Lizard, that the dogs found yesterday. I was alerted by their barking and dancing around it, making out they weren't scared, but jolly glad to come in when I called them! These lizards have no teeth, and their only form of defence is to try to frighten the "enemy" with their open mouth and blue tongue. They move quite slowly, and sadly, with bushfires, many are lost, as they cannot reach safety in time. Many years ago, I remember one latched on to the ear of one of my Irish. The fright Tara got could be heard for miles!!

I loooooove them! There is a breeding pair at my parents' house and every year, we get the joy of watching the babies hatch out and explore the property. They have even learned to hammer on the window for tomato and strawberries!

Just to add - they don't have teeth, but they do have a serrated under jaw which - believe me - is quite sharp LOL And they can hang on for a long, long time... Ouch.

Oh no no no no no. I am not into snakes or lizards and think I would faint if I found this little chap in my home. XXX

Oh Susan - that is terrible!!! As Melinda has pointed out, they are dear little things, wanting strawberries and tasty morsels. Not a mean streak in them!

Looking at that monster I prefer to stay in my country. We have only few lizards.
Here is a sand lizard, only about 20 cm long. Cute boy;-)

Well he looks rather pretty, Anna! And Susan, you probably will laugh, but my biggest fear in life is a frog!!! They are very cute and innocent, especially the little bright green tree frogs, but I am petrified if they come near me!!! When my repressed memory returns, I might understand my fear!!!!
