Home for Irish Setter Lovers Around the World
Szilvásvárad is a MUST.
Every second year at Easter it is time to move to Szilvásvárad for some days, one of the most beautiful places in Hungary. It is famous for its Lipizzaner stud farm as well. My favourite showground, always perfectly organized and beautifully decorated. It was mostly the weather gods that wouldn't cooperate: 2001 we had hail stones falling from the sky, 2003 was very very warm, 2005 flooded away in heavy rains and 2007 quite normal compared to the previous years :-) 2009 was perfect, except for a thunder-shower on Monday - when the champion bitches were in the ring. This year - 2011 - we had lovely sunny weather during the weekend but quite cold and rainy on Monday. Oh well, you can't have it all :)
Saturday: the Setter Club show with Mrs Susan Stone-Amport (CH) judging all the Irish Setters (red and r/w) and Mrs Nikki Ruigrok (IE) the English and Gordon Setters.
Danka's son Glady (Pawsword Piano Man) went to win Best Puppy In Show.
Sister Bella (Pawsword Blue Mazurka) won puppy bitches and Zilou (Pawsword Northern Song) was second in the class. Beautiful little Neita (Copper's Wine 'N' Roses) became Junior Club Winner and later on Best Junior In Show, chosen from all the junior winners from all setter breeds!
Half-naked Danka (Copper's Music And Paws) won working class bitches and received later on Best Working Dog In Show! Lovely rosettes as prizes and a very happy smiling Laura was the result :-)
Here I would like to mention baby Copper's Scones 'N' Jam "Poker" owned by kennel Garden Star's who won Best Baby In Show-2.
Sunday, the CACIB show: the judges from the day before switched breeds, so it was Nikki's turn to judge the Irish. Only Neita was entered and she won juniors. By this she received her Crufts qualification for 2012 as this is the only show in Hungary that gives the qualifier! In the end she was chosen as Best Junior.
Glady was best puppy again and was shortlisted in the last 6 puppies all breeds in the main ring!
Monday: hunting dog show with Mr Kari Järvinen judging. Glady was now in juniors as he turned 9 months old. There were 4 junior males in the class, all from the Netherlands, all older than him but he managed to convince the judge somehow and won the class!!! Neita again won her class and when competing with Glady for the best junior title, she managed to win it again! By this, she had her 3 junior class wins during the weekend, meaning that as soon as the kennel club confirms, she can use the Hungarian Junior Champion title in from of her name, right next to the Romanian one earned the weekend before :-)))
All in all, it was a super long-weekend. We hired a house with friends, 8 people with 10 Irish. We had a big garden for the dogs to play in (even the 6-year olds joined in!) and a lovely old lady cooking home-made Hungarian style dinner for us every evening! We fell into our beds dead-tired every night as you can imagine :-)
