Poster to promote Irish Setters at local show

I'm entering Merlin in Western Australia's biggest agricultural show (like a state fair) at the start of October and want to display some information about the breed. I believe we are the only Irish Setter entering and the main reason I've entered is to give the public a chance to see our wonderful breed. This is the only benched show in WA and the dog show is just one small part of a much larger event. Lots of people come through the dog pavilion and for many it is the most exposure to different dog breeds they will ever have.

I've put together a poster that I hope is informative and interesting. I'm not a breeder and Merlin is my first Irish Setter (and the first I've got to know properly) so everything I've written here is from my own research and personal opinion. I'd really appreciate any feedback and suggestions or corrections on what I've written.

I also need one more picture - I'd like to have a picture of a typical European style show dog, contrasting with the American style and the working dog I already have pictured. One that highlights the difference - stockier body, broader head, lots of 'movement' in the coat and groomed and presented in the European style. There are lots of photos online, but they all seemed to have very strict statements about not using them without permission, so I'm hoping someone on here can give me permission to use one of their photos.

The poster is designed to be 3 A3 sized pages (297mm x 420mm), displayed side by side so the pages will represent the Irish flag. I'm worried that the text is too small and I've written too much, but hopefully it is interesting enough that people will stop and read it.

Hi Helen,

great idea to propagate our wonderful dogs:-).

This project is perfect but as a leaflet to give people interested in the breed to read at home. There is too much text to read right away during the show.

If a may suggest anything:  as a poster try to prepare main informations about breed in short paragraphs, only clue informations, first of all - positive, enthusiastic, anusing, intriguing people.

Catchwors, big fonts, bigger, interesting and funny photos.  Photostory presenting your own dog is a perfect way to present the breed.

And later when somebody will be interested - you can give him/her a leaflet full of informations. I would add there contact to your Kennel Club, club of the breed, interesting pages in internet, f.e. irishsetters.ning.com, etc.

As an European type IS you can present f.e. BIS Crufts - Caspians Intrepid - probably you will find a photo of this dog at Crufts pages.

This year World Winner  from Budapest was presented here, you can contact Laszlo Toth, kennel Garden Stars from Hungary.

You can use other people photos for your private project , non commercial use. If you contact ES members, I'm sure,  they will give you their approval. You can sign photos with f.e. internet adress of that person's page.

I'm hope you won't be offended

Thankyou very much for the suggestions. I'm definitely not offended. I hadn't thought of having leaflets as well as a poster - it does solve my problem of wanting to say a lot to those who are interested but still being visually appealing for people who are just passing by. I'll have another look at it and see what I can come up with. Thanks again.

Good luck Helen with Merlin. Know exactly what sort of show your off to as I'm off to the Royal Melbourne tomorrow to see lovely breeds of dogs...Irish been one !!
What a wonderful idea to promote the lovely Irish, I can't believe your the only one entering an Irish Setter. I'm going as a spectator and hope to see a little more than a few. Have a lovely time and enjoy your Merlin.

Not around much lately due to Harvest and all but very genius of you Helen and informative to me as well. Great post.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I've re-done the posters (see the attached files), and will now start work on the flyers. Again, any problems or comments, please let me know. I'd like some more Irish Setter words on the third page, so let me know any suggestions and I'll add them in.

Hi Helen what a lovely post, you are clever. If you are looking for more words for page 3 the words that come to me are; Surreal,Energetic,Trusting,Tolerant,Enthusiastic,Rewarding. All of this spells SETTER and how true this is, well done you <:0)

So true! Let me know if you have a set for "Irish" as well - so far I can think of Independent, Racy, Intelligent, Sensitive, Humorous?

Thanks - I'll probably use this in my final rework.

you have done a good job! this poster is great:-)

Well done Helen, terrific job you are talented! So much so .....I'd love another Irish :0)

Thanks for your help and support everyone. I was pretty happy with how the poster and flyers turned out, and I'm glad I ended up with both. Here is a picture of our bench at the show.
