What a beautiful pic of a special old lady.

Let's see a photo. I have a picture in my mind's eye of what I believe the standard looks like. I also have a solid appreciation of what a good working dog is, but of course this is somewhat different regionally and within differing preferences. St…

Good initiative, good concept, unfortunately not the will within the American fraternity to make it work. Don and I had some fundamental discussions after the first one about coat quality. I was adamant that a dog with a shaved off coat cannot get a…

It is unusual to see any breeding that is very different. Most combinations are the same pedigrees. It is refreshing to see new dogs, new combinations, and new ways of looking at pedigrees. The problem is that in order to introduce "new" bloodlines,…

For this I have to differ, I routinely see very fast field bred lines that have a "cracking" tail. However, I am not saying I prefer or do not prefer it, just that I think occasionally we get caught up in specifics of standards (show or working) and…

Canada is indeed okay! LOL! I LOVE this list, where else can we discuss our ideas internationally and without too much rancor. It is difficult to find a forum where to discuss this type of idea without regressing into show vs field. Excellent. I am…

How many Irish Setters do you have?

How long have you owned Irish Setters?
Since I was three years old, with just a few years off in the middle
About Me:
I am a third generation Irish fancier - for my Granddad and Dad there has never been another breed of family hunting dog. When I was just three years old my father went to the SPCA to get a "small dog" for the family and came home with a beautiful Irish Setter who was the victim of a divorce. She was registered as Lady Barbara of Shannon. Wasn't Barbie a fitting name for a little girl's Irish? Barbie was with us for nearly 16 years and was not only our family's companion but my father's hunting dog as well. As an adult I did dabble in Belgian Tervuren for a few years before returning to my "roots" so to speak.

My husband Ken and I farm in British Columbia. In addition to the dogs, we have two Paso Fino horses, two Peruvian Pasos, a donkey, and a new baby mule. We also have Katahdin and Dorper sheep as well as crosses, goats, a few chickens, Dexter cattle, rabbits and grow hay; we breed Irish Setters, plus have an Australian Cattle dog and a Great Pyrenese who work the sheep. The Great Pyrenese is just six months old and we hope to show her when she stops growing like a teeter totter! LOL!

We are active in conformation and field events with our Irish Setters, and are really striving to produce a line of Irish that is first and foremost a great family dog and is also equally at home in the show ring or the field.

We have a new website with links to our old one, I try to keep it up to date by letting my webmaster Dotti Fowler have recent information...

It has been ages...

I've not been on the list for over a year! I can't belive it.
Since I was on here Raisin finished her American Dual Championship, her Canadian Amateur Field trial Championship, and her American Companion Dog title - she is now Am DC Can Ch AFTCH Highfeather Raise 'N A Ruckus Am CD MH Can CD FDX.

Saeterelva's Russell JH got two passes on his CKC Field Dog title and a couple of placements at CKC shooting dog stakes.

Russell's Jack of All Trades is doing well on his quest for a CKC show champions… Continue

updates

Hi All, Been ages since I was here, need to catch up on the topics and such. Our litter of seven by Carousel's Just for Fun out of Can Ch Palarset's Spring Fling has begun to go to their new homes. We are keeping the pink girl - tentatively her name is Russell's Isobel - not sure yet, call her Belle, or Izzy, or???? Need to live with her awhile longer to see what suits her. My husband Ken is going to co-own her so he got to choose her name. We have one girl left in that litter, she is a delig

Yeap. the world is small one!
I heard about Stanislav (Stan) Tregub, but I wonder he is in Canada now and selling Laima's puppies in Moscow at the same time? How can it be? :)

Yes we have a few babes here! We are awaiting this year's final babies, two ewes left to lamb out, then weaning the older ones begins...one time I am glad we still live at the farm down the road! NOISY time! I'll add a photo of Ken with Aiko taking her first steps - she has grown so much in two weeks, but oh so cute! Of all the babies I have to say she is the cutest. She plays tag with us!

Hi Susan and welcome to the site. Isn't this fun! I've been doing setters for so long, it's hard for me to write a short summary. And of course I love to tell (and listen to) good stories about the dogs. This breed is so special! Bring on the tales!
