That is frightening Rita.  What happened next?

He just got bigger until I winded him. I know his stomach has less chance of flipping as it's stapled to his abdomen wall. It's very stressful for him and us. I have to deal with this nearly every day and he could bloat 3 times a day sometimes. Hopefully the meds help and he can lead a normal life

How Distressing for you and poor Rosco. When does this happen to him is there a pattern / trigger? What meds do you give him?

Poor Rosco;o( That looks very painful for him! And just when the new meds seemed to be working well ?? Any other advice from your Vet Craig?

Karen there is no pattern, it can happen after eating or late at night. He's on Metronidazole, Omeprazole, Azathioprine, and steriods.

Craig wants to keep him on the meds for another 2 weeks. If there's no change then he's onto the expensive tablets. The only other case like Roscos was a Newfounland and the expensive tablets worked to control his bloating. He'll have to try those for a month.

After a month of treatment to eraticate the helicobacter it made no difference with the bloating. The vet really thought that was the cause.

Hi, Ive had experience of Iris bloating. Each time it was after adding oil to their diet. First was years ago, bitch whelped a litter, thinking I was doing her coat good and helping with regrowth I gave her evening primrose oil she bloated, was operated on and never bloated again(no more oil added)

Recently 2 10 year olds bloated after being given Yumega oil, neither had done it before or after. Will never ever give a regular dose of added oils no matter what kind, although I do give an occaisonal dose of cod liver oil, so far so good. I found about a desertspoon of milk of Magnesia helped enormously some of it spilled and didnt go down but I always keep it in now as I am half an hour from my vets and it does seem to help.

Hi Mary, that's really interesting about the oils. I add salmon oil to Rosco's food. Maybe I'll leave it for a few days and see what happens. With him only been able to eat Salmon and Potatoe I added the oils as his coat was very dry.

Hope all gets better soon for Rosco....let us know if there was a difference after stopping adding the salmon oil......I personally would love for that to be the reason he is bloating for his sake and yours!
