Thanks Susan and Dee!! Abbey had a great weekend finishing with a fun day at Birr Castle where the IrishRedSetterClub hosted a demonstration and talk on working reds! I missed the talk bit as I arrived late and then I bumped into Lord Rosse(owner of the castle) who stopped to admire my girls ;o)) Abbey watched the working reds with great interest and pointed as a dog flushed a bird!! She watched everything! We got to do a tiny bit at the end with Abbey and Rua but time was short so it was only a minute to let them have a go at a poiint!! That was disappointing!! Abbey was so funny! She did point but she was too close to the bird when it flushed and got a wee fright!! Very good day though!! ;o)

Keep up the good work Carmel, she sounds like a natural...I have to say that I found 'the working' part of setters really interesting. Hey all that name dropping...rubbing shoulders with the gentry wow. Go Abbey.....;o))

Ah well when are you going back for dinner???

It would be nice to train her and enter her in one of the upcoming trials, the FT folks are very supportive of 'show' dogs giving it a go.

I am with you there Marc. Go on Carmel even if it is only the once, just to find out if she has it in her, and it sounds like she has...If I can do it anyone can...

I agree, have a go Carmel - the dogs just love it and you are in the right place for sure!

I will get some help with where to start with her training! She is a fast learner!! Can anyone recomment a good book that could give me a head start with her at home?

Don't know of a good book, but the one thing that did strike me on my one ''excursion'' into field work, is, that I should have stopped her chasing tweety birds from the word go, that is one thing that I would personally need to stop, a controlled chase I think is OK, but not the usual full blown Irish Setter yippee type of chase...
I am sure that there will be someone to help....
