It happened a long time ago that I fell in love with the Irish Setter. Neighbours owned a setter and a few years after we married we decided to have a dog. My husband wanted a Dobermann Pincher but I wanted a Red Irish Setter!!! Our first one was Kelly of the Chestnut Garden. When he died sudenly at the age of 10 years there was in the whole country no Irish setter puppy for sale. But Henk ten Klooster had a male setter who was brought back by his first owner. Ardagh Gordy O'Conloch was his name, he was two and a half years old and it was love at first sight!! He became almost 14 years and died in the same week as his sister Yoube. Then there was Marlland Dunquin Irish Mist, he became almost 12. And now we only have his half brother Marlland Guinness Irish Malt.

I lost MC last year in May, so we have pass one anniversary already, but there is no day I do not think or "talk" to him... MC was my dog, my soul mate and it seems that I am not very good at grieving. Now, we have Darwin (6 years old) and I adore him to bits but it is completely different, nothing compare to MC. ... I prefere to have only one dog at the time but David cannot live with only 1 dog... he was waiting for me to have time to grieve MC and this year David's birthday present was a puppy and we will have him in a month time. We are also in our 60s (63 and 62) and we hope that even this coming puppy will not be the last one!!! they really keep us fit those Irish setters... so I really hope that Guinness will have a very very long life and he will not be the last one for you and Bert.
I have seen your photos and I really love your Dunquin ... I love old Irish setters, they have such a wonderful expression in their eyes!!! From our experience, having Darwin when MC was 9 years old already was very good and helped MC to have a kind of second youth even though he never played with Darwin but he was extremelly protective of his young "brother". So if you want to have another dog you may wish considering to have it now it will give more stimulation in the life of your beautiful Guinness.
Have a very nice weekend Marion and a big cuddle to your lovely Guinness.
