REMEMBER TOODYAY WITH LUPIN? WELL, TOODYAY BURNS!!

Very sadly a terrible bushfire has burned through the historic area of Toodyay, destroying an estimated 20, possibly 40 homes, and injuring 4 people. Yesterday's temperatures soared to over 46 degrees there, and with very strong winds, the fires escalated.
Our forecast for the past two days, has been "Catastrophic" fire conditions for our areas, something which puts such fear into us all.
Thankfully the temperatures have eased to the 20's, lessening the risks, and allowing the firefighters to bring under control fires that have been unmanageable.
In Australia, many of the firefighters are volunteers, something, my husband John has been, for nearly twenty years. It is always that terrible fear when they are called out, and they are to indeed be commended for their courage and dedication to our communities.
You will remember that Toodyay is where Dr Phil resides, and has his veterinary practice. This is where Lupin was successfully inseminated with the frozen semen from Sweden.Thankfully the town itself is relatively safe, and Dr Phil lives over the other side of town, away

from the fires.

Such a terrible shame, a very beautiful little town, I could easily have lived there, I enjoyed my visit very much. Hoping that the weather cools down further during the next few days. Take care and love to all those lovely redheads. Jo and the NZ relatives. XXX

Tragic circumstances. We must pray for all the families, animals and the fire fighters for cooler, safer days ahead.

Tragic news. There is always something to bring us back down to earth and stop us moaning about the trivialities in life. I'm now thankful for our rain here and the mud. I hope the temperatures soon drop and people can return to normal and get there lives back together. Well done to Michelle too for offering help for peoples animals. Wonderful community spirit.

37 homes are now confirmed destroyed, and our Premier, Colin Barnett, has declared it a Natural Disaster.

I nearly died when I saw the news on tv tonight. We hadn't heard anything, and to see all the images of the burnt houses...was like Victoria all over again. So very sad.

Hope all settles down soon!! That must be the most frightening experience, to be so close to raging fires, that destroy so quickly!! May everybody stay safe!!

Such scary news Mayra. It must be dreadful living in the shadow of these fires. Keep safe all of you

Just reading the Fire information sheet and it has made me go cold. Do people have a 'quick get away supply kit' or plan that all the family put into practice to get them away safely?? My mind is buzzing!
