The life and times of Conaign

Why we got an irish setter.

We had a labrador named Tara and we lived in a street with several dogs. They were all friends and played with each other and ran around together and also with assorted children. For visitors it was often difficult to know which dog belonged to which family.

Sh Ch Wendover Gentleman...and his somewhat strange way to fame!

This story was told to me in the beginning of the 70;s by Mrs Lupton, the breeder of Labradors (and later setters) = Owner of the Dorrfiels kennels.

The local milkman was spanish and owned an irish setter that he had bought at the Wendover kennel. This dog used to accompany him on his daily milkrounds (hell this was the 60´s and nobody was allergic to dogs). Come as you are!

In Kerry Blue-special shows it´s a class that you don´t have to trim/cut your dog. It´s the "Come as you are- class". I think it could be a good idea for IRS-clubs to have the same. Or a special class for us living without bath-class. Or special class for those who only let your dogs bath in Eastern Sea-class...

Because now the shows popping up again - and we don´t have a bathroom yet!!! Interesting problem and mybe not many will be in "Dirty Dog Class" - so we got a small chanse to…

ISCM 4TH ANNUAL FUN DAY

This past Sunday, August 5, 2007, the Irish Setter Club of

Milwaukee held its 4th annual Fun Day in our back yard. My

husband Joe and I welcomed a bevy of Irish setters, two Gordons, and a

13 inch beagle to our home. We have a fenced 1/2 acre yard in the

suburbs. As the day was quite warm and sunny we had 3 doggie

pools out for the furkids which proved quite popular. A basket of

balls and frisbees helped to amuse our setter friends.

Walking the Dogs

When Chester first arrived here, he was the 3rd dog in and at that point, taking the dogs for a walk was very difficult. I could drive them to the off-leash dog park and let them run, but 3 large dogs in the back of my little car means little fights would often occur in the crowded back seat. So, luckily I have a large back yard and they would put quite a few miles racing around. Unfortunately, Chester never did learn to walk on leash this way though.

National Show, Szekszárd, Hungary

Hello everybody, congrats to all the wins during the weekend. We also had a very successful day at a show. We spent a long weekend at my parents' house (fun photos will be loaded into my photo album) and surely we also went to the show arranged 40 km from the town they live in. Both my girls were entered. Rua's only dog pup from her Jan.'07 litter: Clannrua Donard at Cloonminda(Darby) owned by Sheila Hughes, had a great start to his show career!! Yesterday on Leuven CAC Show in Belgium WOODSTOCK Vom Pulserdamm "Wizzy" was:1,excellant ,CAC & Best Of Breed...but the biggest surprise was... when my irish female SHILLA Saturnii was 1 and excellant in champion class,CAC & Best of Breed...on the "big ring" Shilla handling by Yvonne Hill Decoster was 2place on Best of Group!!
